A dealer in central PA bought two 5 speed 15th anniversary TA's. Mine is an automatic on the right. It was fun!

Couple more pics One was out of SD and the other IL. The one 5 speed had the motor and exhaust redone. I drove both and this won just flew. The 5 speed with the side molding was the nicer of the two. I was able to drive both and I must admit shifting these things was a lot of fun. Compared to my '84 they both pulled much better than mine. I found myself running my automatic in "Drive" instead of "Overdrive" after driving the two 5 speeds! I think my engine needs some attension to match these two or maybe that's the nature of auto vs manual - I don't know

That is cool you got to take them for a spin. The L69 can be a very peppy motor. I believe the 5-spd cars got 3.73 rear gears versus the 3.23 in the automatic cars. (I could be wrong, I'll have to check after work)
Does the dealer plan on keeping both cars or selling one of them? (My fingers are crossed...) ;D

I believe the L69 automatics came with 3.42s standard and 3.73s as an option but I'm not 100% sure on that. Welcome to the boards Rich. Your 15th looks great!

Looking at my 84 dealer book... your right about the 5 speed 3.73 thing. Says the 3.73 was std. w/ the L69 stick and optional w/ the auto. So an auto L69 could have 3.23's or 3.73's. Looks like 3.42's were only available w/ the 2.5 I4 or 2.8 V6 stick cars though. (well according to the 84 dealer book anyway )

My 83 LG4 5-spd has the 3:73s only because it was also a WS6 car. Non WS6 LG4 5-spd T/As in 1983 came with 3:23s. Leon

I asked the question too. He is going to take parts off one to make one good one. He is in no hurry. Said he would call me if he wants to unload one. Not holding my breath.
I wonder what gears I have. PHS? I am not a good car guy - I know!
Like the new board! Thank you!

It should have your RPO's listed. RPO GU5 = 3.23. I dont know the 3.73 RPO off the top of my head but it should be G-- for the rear gear ratio. (G80 = posi for example) PHS should also be able to give you some info on your car. PHS ran into some legal trouble with GM and is only able to do up until 87 now.

Just looked at my 15th window sticker with automatic. GT4 Axle Ratio RR 3.73 No Charge MX0 Automatic Transmission, 4-Speed $295.00 California car, so has any one verified a 15th with some thing other than the 3.73 gear set. I know my 15th 5-speed has the 3.73 gear set.
My Automatic DT500 has GW9 Axle Ratio RR 2.93 .00 MX0 Automatic Transmission $295.00 California car while other states had the 3.23 gear set.
Just noticed the window sticker for the 15th uses No Charge for the no cost portion and the 1983 DT500 WS uses .00 Go figure, learn some thing new every other day. ;D
