Here is an example of the base F-body mirror. I believe they were optional up until about 1986. I think this car is an 84. The color is obviously not stock. And another car...

I see those on eBay from time to time. They were standard on European fbodies. In Europe, car are required to have break away mirrors.

wildjeff, the mirrors in the pic below are the breakaway version that were used on European export models and some early production '87 GTAs. They are commonly called "paddle mirrors". Note that they are more square. I believe they are also made of plastic. The mirrors in TAdan pics are of the standard mirror on '82-86 base model Camaro and Firebirds. They are fully manual adjust. There is no remote lever for the driver's side mirror.

Thanks I like learning stuff. I've never seen them before either, on an early firebird anyway. but I see what you mean by the being more square. Next time I see some on eBay I'll have to check them out more closely. Anybody happen to know the RPO? I'd like to add it to my decoding document. I don't have any base model firebirds build sheets. anybody notice the R15s in the reflection of the purple car....sweet!
