Hi there all.. Was just wondering, If I were to sell my 305 LU5 Crossfire engine with 86k miles, out of my 83 Recaro Edition Firebird Trans Am.. What am I likely to get for it???

Hi Shaz, welcome to the board Well I think the biggest thing is finding someone that is looking for and willing to pay for an original and complete LU5. Otherwise I think the rest of the world may see it as just another smog era SBC. If it runs, and hasnt been rebuilt I'd say it would go for somewhere between 100 and 300. To you and I it is a unique and hard to find piece of thirdgen firebird history, to the rest of the world it is an 86k mile 305 with a "confusing" injection system. If the motor were rebuilt you could probably get a few hundred more out of it, but you would have to invest more than it's worth. I'd suggest posting it for sale on some of the thirdgen message boards and seeing what kind of interest you get. Good luck!

Hey TAdan, Thanks for the reply.. It's Just as I thought.. I'll see how it goes and if It's not worth selling then I'll just keep it and store it for the day my car is worth something. I'm gonna run an LS3 OR LS6 for the time being, that way the crossfire holds a low mileage for restoration purposes. Thanks for the info man.. See you around on Firebird Zone

That is so true, The crossfire is my favorite engine, I have 2. but to most of the world is worth more to recycle then use. I think it was a great idea for the time but the implementation was less then ideal and thats what people remember.
