What were once a very mint set of tail lights are now ruined due to excessive crazing that has rapidly spread throughout all three pieces including the Firebird emblem.
The tail lights were off of a low mile garage kept car that was totalled and were perfect when installed six months ago. Today I noticed that the right side is heavily crazed and the left and center pieces are not far behind...
I don't understand what could have caused this all of a sudden. The car is never in direct sunlight and is kept in a fully enclosed tent with a blanket over the tail lights.
Anyone else have this problem with '82-84 tail lights? Anyone know what could have caused this?

I have seen crazing caused by changes in temp and some chemical coatings. I have also seen it caused by some of the cheap plastic film that is supposed to protect it. I have a set that has a little crazing but nothing to bad.
Did you use any cleaner or other products on the taillights?

Heat seems to be a big factor in the seperation of these taillights. Although I have never really seen it in the 82-84 style. I normally see it in the 85-92 and 93-97 styles. Good luck.

The only product that I applied was some 303 Aerospace Protectant about a year ago. Maybe that was the cause? I know when my pinion seal went out on the original 10 bolt that some oil was sprayed onto the back of the car. I wonder if that could have contributed.... All parts of the lights are crazing... Even the reflector and bird.
