My friend is offering me his 1971 400 and TH400...
I was just wondering if anyone knew what was involved in swapping a Poncho motor into a thirdgen. I know it has been done, I'd just like to know if it is worth the trouble...
Thanks.
The motor and trans have been rebuilt a while back. They are in his 56 Chieftan and run and drive fine, but I'd probably go through the engine anyway.

Well after researching it a bit, it just does not seem like a smart economic choice. A SBC is just the easiest and most economical way to go. I'd love to do the Pontiac for the Cool factor, but it just wouldnt be wise for a daily driver... I'd have to tear down the motor (just for my own piece of mind) get it inspected, reassemble it, find manifolds or headers, engine mounts, Y-pipe, alt bracket... etc...Once all of that is paid for I could have just dumped in a new crate SBC... I do love the idea of a nice Pontiac blue motor in the engine bay though...
