Amazing...
That car couldn't have gone into better hands. It will be stunning when it's completed.
What are the plans for it?
Good luck with the project and keep us posted!

Thanks for the positive comments! I think you might know who we bought it from. Louie, from near Chicago. If I'm not mistaken, he had a car of yours at this place when we were there to pic this one up. Anyways, the intent for this car is for a complete stock resto outside complete with te Pace car decals, and the intereior will have to go with some non-Recaro seat for the time being, until funds are there to have the Recaros recovered. The current engine and trans are out of a 1982 CFI car with the metric 3 speed trans and shifter. I already have a 350 engine we intend to put in it, along with a fresh 700r4 and the correct shifter. We also have the stock 15 wheels that came on my 83 to use, as well as another set of 16" wheels like the ones I have on my car, that I plan on painting white, to be used as an upgrade to the DT500. We are leaning towards keeping the CFI set-up, but deleting the pollution controls and running headers/ no cat exhaust. I'd like to see at least 250 HP, depending on the set up we choose. I will keep you all update as time goes by. We are near the point where we are going to take the engine/trans out of it, before winter, and then drop the front suspention. After that, the engine compartment gets repainted, the suspention will get sand blasted and repaint/rebuilt/reinstalled over the winter, so it will be ready for the fresh driveline to be installed next spring. He does have my former project DT500 now. I hope it's in good hands. BTW You are very lucky to have that garage.

Looks like you guys are making quick work of it. If your past resto's are any indication I am sure this one will be gorgeous too! What kind of adhesive is that around the battery tray? Was the tray welded in first? My battery tray is pretty rough...(Not THAT bad ) but it is an NJ car. I have a couple other spots that could use some rust repair attention. (Muttering under my breath about Southern California cars...)

The battery box was strictly glued in with an autobody sheet metal adhesive made by Lord, which I understand, is the same brand that GM uses in its contruction of new cars. And no, I did NO welding neither before nor after installing it. Leon

Looks like a fun project! Gee, all the stuff I have for a car like that................ I even have a spare set of 15th Anniversary Trans Am wheels that would look good, except for that blue stripe. You could go with a black stripe. George

Keep me posted when you take delivery of the car. Are the Recaro seats still in it, and how good are they? We are interested in most anything at this point, so inventory what you'll have for sale and let me know. Thanks, Leon

Sorry to say, but no. we have her in in outside storage for the winter, as I needed the room for other things, and also for the fact that I don't have any heat in the garage to work in, but maybe someday. BUT, we have made great strides forward in the parts gathering process. A buddy of mine that was in the middle of a V-6 - V-8 swap in an 86 Camaro, has desided to sell of his complete driveline, which includes a 70s vintage 350 (355 now) with Vortec heads, Edelbrock Performer/Q-jet, and Comp Cams 268 cam. A fresh bebuilt, undriven 700r4 trans, a brand new complete exhaust system (dynomax catback), bigger sway bars, wonder bar, and a complete early 4th gen rear disc brake set-up. So you can see, we have the mechanicals covered, and ya, no Cross-Fire for the old girl, but it WILL haul ass, none the same. Our bigest hurdle will be getting the Recaros recovered, but that's still quit a ways off from now. Heres the most recent pictures of the DT500, and of our driveline doner. Spring time is going to be very busy at my garage! Leon
