www.geezerlab.com:8080/ds3/woodenfb/click any pic to enlarge. first four pics are seller's from eBay, next 9 are mine, next 12 are my friend's after I gave it to him for study, next 7 when we met in Carlisle PA, and last 2 are in my scanner. I saw this wooden Firebird on eBay around 2000 - 2001 and swiped it up instantly! The funny thing is, it's such good quality and such a perfect copy of the original plastic car, that you have to wonder if it's really wood, how did they do it? Every detail on the red plastic car's exterior also can be found on the wooden car. Does anyone else have any info about this unique Firebird? I have tried googling the company on the sticker underneath, but I can't find them anywhere. The only other Firebird I know of has a D80 WING and it is on this page: firebirdtoys.com/pages/noncars.htm

That is a really impressive model Any back story on the manufacturer or where it came from? I like the shots with it posed on the Recaro wheel.

Well that's what I'm hoping to find out here, if someone knowledgeable with this car can tell us. As I said, the company Gar-Wood out of Florida, based on the telephone number, is nowhere to be found, even if you spell it Garwood. Even if you use newer area codes that have superseded the 305 area code, nothing comes up. I also searched Google Patents, since the little tag says "patent pending", and again I found absolutely nothing. There's a much older Garwood company out of Michigan, but I think it's unrelated.
The strangest thing is that there's no real guarantee the car is wooden. It feels wooden and sort of has a wood-like dull sound to it when you knock on it, but it could easily be other material. The base looks marble, but again I'm not sure what it's made of unless I spend some serious money for analysis..

I also emailed Gilbert at that firebirdtoys.com website, and I hope to hear back from him some time soon. He's the owner of that car on that page, the one with the D80 spoiler.
I've been offline for years now, so this is all sort of a rediscovery for me..

I have seen some in person, and tried buying a few on ebay, but lost out each time. All I have is a fourthgen Wooden Ram Air Trans Am Pace Car, and it's black, being numbered on the box and bottom of the car, around 1/24th scale. I know nothing about them. George

George I have seen a good number of the 96 T/A pace cars on Ebay. Is that the one George?

Yep, That's the one I am talking about. I have 2 of those. None of the 1982-1983 one. George
